Black Velvet Cake – Move Over Red!

Now remember, the term velvet applies to the texture of the cake itself. And red is simply an identifier of the color it’s been given. So by that logic, you can use another color of food dye to make your velvet cake appear the way you wish.

Here though, I’ve found this black velvet cake recipe. While indeed it looks a lot like a dark chocolate or devil’s food cake, you’ll get that velvety texture when you take a bite. The recipe I found details how to make the cake itself. It mentions nothing about frosting, leaving you on your own for that venture. You can make your own cream cheese frosting for it with unsalted butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla extract. An electric mixer makes this a snap. Please don’t be lazy and buy the canned stuff. Sure, it saves time, but if you make your own frosting, it will totally make this black velvet cake what every cake wishes it could be.
