THE BAR THAT’S RAISING THE BAR!
I remember my mom telling me, “You can’t please everyone.” She said this because we were planning my 8th birthday party and one of my friends couldn’t come on one weekend but could come the next weekend, and for my best friend, she couldn’t come on the next weekend, only the original weekend we had in mind. Ah, summer birthdays! Can you relate? Anyway, I soon learned that my mom was right. When you make too many concessions to try to please everybody, you’re not happy.
It wasn’t a party for them. It was MY party. Don’t want to go swimming? Too bad. Go sit on a lounge chair and sulk then. Don’t want to go to the roller rink? Fine. Stay home. I’m happy I learned this lesson early on. It’s made me a happier person. But there is one thing I’ve actually found in life that DOES please everybody. These peanut butter cake bars.
