Fabulous French Donuts – New Orleans Beignets!

IT’S HIP TO BE SQUARE!

These make for such a fun and cool breakfast. The folks over in New Orleans certainly think so. Make your own Mardi Gras and make these today. You’ll need to make the dough overnight though. That’s fine because it’s super easy to prep. But beware…the recipe calls for self-rising flour. If you don’t have it, you can easily make it by adding 1-1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and a 1/2 teaspoon of salt for each cup of self-rising flour the recipe calls for.

After your dough has been in the fridge all night, punch it down and roll it out. You’ll cut it into little squares. And then the fun begins! You’ll heat your electric skillet or fryer so the oil gets to 375°. Toss a few squares of the dough in at a time and fry until they’re golden brown.

Drain the excess grease on paper towels and then roll the beignets in confectioners’ sugar while they’re still warm. They’re best enjoyed while still warm but they’re still amazing once they’ve cooled. Enjoy with a tall glass of milk.

I found this scrumptious (and possibly, live-saving) recipe from the Taste of Home website. Click the link below to see the full recipe for these French Donuts – New Orleans Beignets.
